Interview: Michon C. Young

Michon C. Young is a proud native of Gary, Indiana.  She has resided in Michigan for several years and considers Detroit, MI her second hometown.

A gifted psalmist and song writer, Michon has been singing and writing since the age of 12. Michon started her professional musical career by being hand selected by Pastor Marvin L.Winans to sing background on his debut concert in Detroit, Michigan for the release of his 1st solo CD, “Alone but Not Alone”.  She has traveled extensively singing background for Pastor Winans and was honored to sing a duet with him at the Grand Opening of Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia.

Myele Manzanza

World-renowned drummer/composer, & producer/beatmaker, Myele Manzanza, has proved that he’s an artist who continues to dissolve the borders between modern jazz and electronic beat production. Having released three solo albums, and racking up tours and collaborations with Jordan Rakei, Theo Parrish, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, Recloose and Amp Fiddler amongst others. Myele is already developing a strong live presence in his new London base; his quartet has shared stages with the likes of Hiatus Kaiyote , The Bad Plus , Alfa Mist , and drawing packed houses to top venues such as The Jazz Café and Ronnie Scott’s.

Diane Mathis

“Welcome Back Home”

Diane Mathis was born in the city of Detroit.  She knew at an early age that she wanted to entertain.  At the early age of fourteen she signed her first recording contract with Golden World Records as the lead singer of the Debonaires.  Her first  recording with Golden World Records How’s Your New Love Treating You charted at number 12 on the national charts.  
 
In 1968 Diane went solo with Capital Records  and recorded two single How Does it feel and Love is all around.  She went on to sing background for various artist such as Issac Hayes, Johnnie Taylor and Donald Bird.  Diane has performed for the 70’s PBS Special  K.C and the SunShine Get Down Tonight singing back ground for such artist  such as Wild Cherry Bonnie Pointer, Leo Sayers , and  Chic.

Acid Jazz presents a dynamic live recording capturing the energy & pure joy of The Brand New Heavies live in 1992.

1991 was a momentous year for The Brand New Heavies. They started it without a singer and were second on the bill to The James Taylor Quartet but by the end of the year they had a Top 3 US hit and were about to embark on a run of 16 Top 40 hits in the UK. N’Dea Davenport was by this point fronting the group as their guest singer, and the brilliant string of singles from their debut album were becoming locked in the minds of an ever-growing fan base.
